Properties, pets and other subjects

The places, animals and things you actually work on, and the details worth keeping about them.

You rarely service a customer. You service their house, or their dog, or their ute. Bookables calls those subjects, and they hang off the customer record.

One customer can have several. A landlord with four rentals. A family with two dogs. Someone with a house and a beach house.

The two groups

Subjects are grouped into Property and Family.

Property covers the places and things:

  • Residential, a home.
  • Commercial, a business premises.
  • Vehicle, Bike and Boat.

Family covers the people and animals:

  • Person, for the family members who are not the account holder.
  • Pet.

Why bother

Two reasons, and they both pay off quickly.

Pricing. Services priced from the size of a property read their numbers straight off the property record. Once you have captured that a house has four bedrooms, two bathrooms and eighteen windows, every future quote for that house prices itself.

Not asking twice. The gate code, the dog that bites, the fact that the meter is round the side. Recording it against the property means the next person who goes out already knows.

What each subject holds

Every kind has its own fields, because a boat and a bedroom have nothing in common.

A property holds its address, its type, and the measurements that matter: bedrooms, bathrooms, living rooms, storeys, floor area and windows. It also holds what is on the property, so you can note the pool, the solar, the long gravel driveway.

A pet holds species, breed, size, temperament and notes. Temperament is the field people skip and then regret.

Adding one

From the customer record, add a property or a family member and pick the kind. You will be asked only the questions that apply to that kind.

Working with subjects

Click a subject on a customer record to focus it, and the history beside it filters down to just that property or that pet. So you can answer "when did we last do the beach house" without reading through everything you have ever done for that customer.

When you create a booking for a customer who owns subjects, you will be asked which one it is for.
